“Will this be enough?” is the question we hear most. Order too small and someone misses out; order too big and you’re eating cake for a week (not the worst problem). Here’s the simple rule we use in our kitchen.
The Simple Rule: 1 kg Serves 8–10 People
This assumes a normal party slice after a meal. If cake is the main dessert, or your guests have a sweet tooth, plan a little more.

Our serving numbers assume a normal party slice. If you cut thin “office slices”, a cake stretches further; if cake is the main dessert, plan for bigger slices and order one size up.
Shape and Height
A tall, layered cake yields more slices than a flat cake of the same weight. Heart-shaped and 3D cakes have more awkward edges, so plan a little extra. For big events, two-tier cakes both look grand and serve more guests.

It’s tight. For 15 people, choose 1.5 kg or 2 kg.
Does a fondant cake weigh more?
Fondant adds some weight, so a 1 kg fondant cake has slightly less sponge than a 1 kg fresh cream cake – plan a little more.
